Who Is Xayah, Really?

Xayah is the vastaya rebel of Ionia, a lethrite warrior who decided one day that her people were not allowed to fade quietly into history, and who has been aggressively uncivil about it ever since. She is a young, sharp-tongued, heavily armed woman with a partner she loves deeply and a cause she will not compromise on, in that order.

She was raised in a culture that had been shrinking for generations. Humans moved in. Magic thinned. Vastaya started to forget themselves. Most of her community tolerated it. Xayah did not. She picked up the feathered blades, started hitting targets humans had decided were untouchable, and did not ask anyone's permission.

Then she met Rakan, and the cause got a second engine.

The Xayah Personality, Decoded

You can describe Xayah in three modes: combative, devoted, and principled.

Combative is the surface. She is ready for the fight before the fight starts. Her resting state is tension. Her voice lines bite. Her humor is confrontational. She is the person who walks into a room already annoyed.

Xayah's voice writing is sharp, cold, and occasionally hilarious. The contrast with Rakan's softer register is the point. They are each other's counterbalance.

Because she is the person who is furious for all the right reasons. Meeting her would feel like meeting the friend who refuses to let you minimize your own story. The one who says that wasn't fine, and you know it wasn't fine, and makes you sit with it until you agree.

She would not comfort you past the point of honesty. She would not let you lie to yourself about the thing that happened. She would, however, stand next to you while you dealt with it.

She would want to know what you are letting slide that you should not be letting slide. She would want to know who in your life is taking advantage of your patience.
